Gravel Cost Per Ton Calculator

The quarry price is never the whole price. Add the haul fee and the load minimum to see what a ton actually lands at.

Quarries invoice in US tons and landscape yards quote in cubic yards, so the same pile carries two prices. Density is the only honest way to compare the two quotes.

Prices are national planning averages. Aggregate is a freight-dominated product — every 20 miles from the quarry adds meaningfully to the delivered price.

Why gravel pricing is really freight pricing

Stone at the quarry gate is cheap — $12 to $45 a ton for most crushed products. Getting it to you is not. A tandem truck delivery runs $80-$200 per load regardless of whether you take 5 tons or 15, so short orders carry a brutal effective price per ton.

The single biggest saving available on a gravel job is filling the truck. If you need 9 tons, price 15 — the extra rock is often cheaper than the second delivery you would otherwise make later.

Typical delivered prices

Crushed stone and crusher run: $25 – $55 per ton delivered. Pea gravel and river rock: $35 – $90. Decorative and specialty stone: $60 – $160. Recycled crushed concrete: $12 – $30.

Spreading is $0.30-$0.80 per square foot by hand and less by machine on open sites. Most contractors bundle it into a per-square-foot installed price rather than pricing stone and labour separately.

Frequently asked questions

+How much does a ton of gravel cost?

$25-$55 per ton delivered for common crushed products, before the haul fee is spread across the load. Decorative stone runs two to three times that.

+How much does gravel delivery cost?

$80-$200 per load in most markets, charged per trip rather than per ton. Ordering a full truck is always cheaper per ton than a partial load.

+Is it cheaper to pick up gravel myself?

Only for very small jobs. A pickup safely carries about half a ton, so anything over two tons means multiple trips, fuel and wear that exceed the delivery fee.

+How much does a gravel driveway cost per square foot?

$1.50-$3.50 per square foot for a properly built three-course driveway, materials and labour, and $0.60-$1.20 for a resurfacing top-up.
